Island Nature Trust is Prince Edward Island’s first private land trust, established in 1979 to protect and conserve natural areas in Prince Edward Island. Epekwitk, Mi’kmaq for “lying in the water”, is a small sandstone gem at the edge of the Atlantic. We envision a future where P.E.I. has a network of protected, robust natural areas championed by knowledgeable, engaged Islanders.
Island Nature Trust is a membership-based, not-for-profit, non-government registered charity that is completely Island-based. We own 8,400 acres of forest, wetland and coastline, and steward it with the invaluable assistance of volunteers, many of whom are also our neighbours. We also strive to help private landowners with management and protection of their own properties, monitor and protect species-at-risk and deliver nature education & outreach programs across PEI.
